Through extensive research, therapeutic sessions and countless interviews Dr.Steiner-Adair shows us the harrowing effects technology has in our lives in her book “The Big Disconnect":Protecting Children and Family Relationships in the Digital Age.

We live in a constant state of anxiety as our devices are always buzzing: another text, another email needs our attention; one last scroll through 1 or however number of social media accounts we have. Our jobs have convinced us that having our cell phone synchronized with our work email is making productivity much more easier and that constant interaction with the departments at our office is the way to be more efficient.

This might be true to an extent and we might feel we are doing our best- but once we get home and other things demand our attention we are still wired, unable to put our electronic devices down, even when we are with our family.

The downfall: children are begging for their parents attention as their parents addiction doesn’t allow to give them the undivided attention they deserve. Hence, why they feel unwanted, a burden and invisible. Dr. Catherine does a great job capturing real life testimonies from children and adolescents as they relate the realistic home scenarios- the picture behind closed doors.

More often than we’d be willing to admit we are loosing our real connection in the world; likes, emojis and surficial conversations have captivated a world.

Don't let technology suck you in and start taking real value with your surroundings and your circle of friends and family.

"We can bring humanity and technology together on a smaller scale in our own homes and our own families and we can teach our children how to be in this new world. There we can deepen connections, cultivate closeness and push pause more often to savor the gift of time and the primacy of family."
